The Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch between KR Puram and Central Silk Board in Bengaluru is set for a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility.
The project, spearheaded by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (BSMILE), will transform the corridor into a 10-lane thoroughfare, comprising a six-lane main carriageway and four service lanes. It will also feature wider footpaths, dedicated cycle lanes, and a Bus Priority Lane (BPL) to enhance public transport efficiency and reduce travel time.
Estimated at ₹450 crore, the project addresses the ORR’s high traffic density, which currently exceeds twice its designed capacity. The new BPL will also help decongest the main carriageway by relocating bus shelters to designated areas.
In parallel, Metro Phase 2A is expected to further ease traffic flow, with an estimated 1.5 lakh commuters projected to use the corridor by end-2026. While the original white-topping plan was scaled back, select sections such as Marathahalli and Kadubeesanahalli will still receive white-topping for added durability.
The project will move forward following final approval and tendering, marking a key step in Bengaluru’s smart mobility and infrastructure modernization efforts.
