The Goripalayam flyover in Madurai, a ₹190 crore infrastructure project, is expected to open in February after facing multiple delays. Officials have confirmed that the final deck slabs are nearly complete, with remaining works such as lighting and painting scheduled to be finished within the next ten days.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion at one of the city’s busiest junctions. Senior officials are closely monitoring the progress, and the final inauguration date is likely to be announced soon. Although Public Works Minister E.V. Velu had earlier stated that the flyover would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister during Pongal, the opening is now expected in the second week of February.
The flyover will provide a direct link between Goripalayam and Sellur, addressing a long-standing demand from residents for improved traffic flow. A senior engineer overseeing the project said that the flyover will be ready for public use once the final works are completed.
