Kerala to Develop Fishing Harbor and Breakwater

The Harbour Engineering Department of Kerala has announced a major development initiative for Arthunkal fishing harbour and the construction of a breakwater in Alappuzha. Valued at Rs 94.88 crore, the project aims to enhance infrastructure crucial for the local fishing industry. 

The scope of work includes using varying sizes of stones for different layers of the breakwater and harbour side, along with the installation of 4T tetrapods for sea-facing protection. Geobags filled with sea sand will be utilized as a filtering layer, ensuring sustainable construction practices. The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months, with bids due by July 9, 2024.
