Amit Shah to Launch LPMS: A New Era for India’s Land Ports

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi, marking a significant step toward modernising India’s border infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of cross-border trade and transit operations.

The LPMS has been developed as a comprehensive digital platform to streamline the management of India’s land ports through advanced technology integration and real-time data exchange. The system is designed to facilitate faster, more secure, and transparent movement of both goods and passengers across international borders.

The platform will provide end-to-end digital processing capabilities, including cargo and passenger tracking, slot booking, payment management, and single-window clearance mechanisms. It will also be integrated with major national digital platforms such as ICEGATE, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem, enabling seamless coordination among government agencies, logistics providers, traders, and transport operators.

In addition to the launch of LPMS, newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at Dawki in Meghalaya and Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura will also be inaugurated. These facilities are intended to improve support infrastructure for border officials, security personnel, traders, and transport operators involved in cross-border commerce and border management activities.

The initiative is expected to strengthen operational efficiency at land ports, improve trade facilitation, and enhance regional connectivity. Tripura, which serves as a key gateway for India-Bangladesh trade through land ports such as Agartala, Srimantapur, and Sabroom, is expected to derive significant benefits from the enhanced infrastructure and digital capabilities.
