In a major boost to India’s space and aerospace ambitions, the Andhra Pradesh government has granted in-principle approval for the development of a Space City at Routhusuramala village in Thottambedu Mandal, Tirupati district.
Spanning 2,600 acres, this will be the state’s first dedicated space-focused industrial cluster. The site is strategically positioned—just 15 km from Srikalahasti, 40 km from Tirupati International Airport, and 60 km from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota, India’s premier space launch facility. Its connectivity via NH-16 and the Sri City–Srikalahasti Road further enhances its appeal for high-tech and aerospace industries.
While Andhra Pradesh moves forward with this ambitious project, the Karnataka government has recently decided to cancel land acquisition for its proposed Aerospace Park near Bengaluru airport, following opposition from local farmers. Seizing the opportunity, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for HRD and IT, Nara Lokesh, extended an invitation to aerospace companies to consider setting up operations in the upcoming Space City, highlighting the state's commitment to supporting advanced technology and innovation-driven sectors.
