Barsar’s Big Gulp: ₹137-Crore Water Project Set for October Launch

Residents of the Barsar constituency in Hamirpur are set to gain access to an additional 15.5 million litres of water per day as a ₹137-crore water supply project nears completion.

Initially launched by the previous BJP government, the project faced several controversies during the tendering process but is now progressing steadily. The Jal Shakti Department selected Govind Sagar Lake near Jai Shri village, on the right bank of the dam, as the primary water source. Over 70% of the work has been completed, with supply line construction underway. Of the 27 km main line, only 3 km remains, and 43 km of the 138-km network of supply lines are still pending. The project will include 32 storage tanks to serve 48 Gram Panchayats, 30 of which have already been completed.

The system, expected to be commissioned by October, will feature four 200 HP pumping machines at Jai Shri village and six 500 HP units for distribution, along with a modern water testing facility to ensure quality supply.
