The Karnataka Cabinet has granted in-principle approval for the development of a world-class cricket stadium at Suryanagar in Anekal, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, with an estimated investment of ₹2,350 crore.
Proposed on a 75-acre parcel of land owned by the Karnataka Housing Board, the stadium is designed to accommodate 80,000 spectators, more than doubling the capacity of the existing M Chinnaswamy Stadium (32,000 seats). In addition to hosting international cricket matches, the facility will serve as a multipurpose venue for concerts, conclaves, and large public gatherings.
The state government emphasized the need for a modern, large-scale stadium to meet international benchmarks and address growing demand for high-capacity venues. A detailed project report (DPR) is currently awaited to finalise the project scope, design specifications, and cost structure, before moving to the execution phase.
