Delhi Govt. Promises Barapullah Phase-3 Completion by December 2025

The Delhi Government has set a new deadline to complete the long-delayed Barapullah Phase-3 flyover by December 2025, according to Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.

During a recent site inspection, Minister Verma confirmed that construction is progressing rapidly and that all remaining work is on track for timely completion. “This vital infrastructure project had been stalled for years due to neglect and inaction. Since assuming office, we’ve made it a priority and pushed forward on multiple fronts,” he said.

The Phase-3 flyover will link Mayur Vihar Phase-I in East Delhi to AIIMS in South Delhi, integrating with the existing Barapullah corridor at Sarai Kale Khan. Once operational, it is expected to ease east-west traffic congestion significantly and shorten commute times. As of now, approximately 89% of the construction is complete.

One of the final hurdles is obtaining clearance from the forest department to relocate around 250 trees. Minister Verma noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is actively coordinating with the forest department to expedite the process.

Originally approved in 2014, construction of the flyover began in 2015 with an initial completion target of 2017. However, the project was repeatedly delayed due to bureaucratic inefficiencies, poor coordination among departments, and delayed approvals. The current administration has prioritized the project to avoid further cost overruns and to address longstanding traffic woes in the capital.
