Avenue Supermarts, the operator of DMart, is set to accelerate its store expansion strategy, with a renewed focus on north India—particularly in smaller cities where lower capital costs and stronger returns on investment are expected.
CEO Neville Noronha will personally oversee the northern rollout for the next six months, until the end of his term in January. To support this growth, the company is considering raising debt and targets a 20% increase in store count, with a long-term goal of 1,800–1,900 outlets nationwide.
DMart will steer clear of the quick commerce segment, choosing instead to prioritise operational scale and long-term efficiency over short-term profitability. Its e-commerce platform, DMart Ready, is aiming for double-digit growth, faster deliveries within six hours, and deeper penetration in current markets rather than launching in new cities.
