Future City, Clean Future: Telangana Plans 87-Acre 'Eco Town'

The Government of Telangana is planning to establish an integrated waste processing facility, described as an “eco town”, near the proposed Future City development region.

The initiative is aimed at addressing the rising volume of waste generated from Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region, which includes the city’s three municipal corporations.

According to officials, the proposed facility will be developed on nearly 87 acres of land owned by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation in Siddapur village of Kothur mandal in Rangareddy district, located outside the Outer Ring Road.

Authorities clarified that the site is intended to function as an advanced recycling and waste-to-resource management hub rather than a conventional solid waste dumping ground. The eco town is expected to include modern processing plants for segregated municipal solid waste and electronic waste.

Plans also include the development of a waste-to-energy facility that will initially utilise refuse-derived fuel generated from existing waste streams.

Officials stated that while the proposed facility may not immediately reduce the quantity of waste reaching Jawahar Nagar, it is expected to ease operational pressure by improving overall waste processing efficiency and resource recovery capabilities.
