Game On: Decathlon India's ₹25,020 Cr Vision for "Make in India" Sports

Decathlon India has unveiled an ambitious plan to scale up local sourcing to ₹25,020 crore (USD 3 billion) by 2030—up from the current ₹4,000 crore (USD 480 million)—as part of its long-term growth strategy. The sporting goods giant also aims to generate three lakh direct and indirect jobs within the country’s manufacturing and production ecosystem.

Marking 25 years of operations in India, CEO Sankar Chatterjee told CNBC-TV18 that the company will increase local sourcing from 70% to 90% and triple production output. Decathlon plans to expand its retail presence from 55 cities to over 90, doubling its footprint across both physical stores and digital platforms.

The brand is also widening its portfolio beyond core sports categories to include footwear, wellness, fitness, and technical equipment—while tapping into niche segments like equestrian sports and road cycling.

Emphasising Decathlon’s focus on frugality, accessibility, and partnership-led innovation, Chatterjee said the upcoming India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could further support the company’s export goals, leveraging India as a hub for talent and component manufacturing.
