Ghaziabad 2.0: The ₹2,200-Crore Blueprint for a Global Gateway

The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious redevelopment plan to transform Ghaziabad into a modern gateway to the state, anchored by a series of large-scale infrastructure and urban development projects.

The ₹2,200-crore initiative envisions the construction of an international cricket stadium alongside a world-class Aerocity, aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure while driving commercial growth. A key highlight of the project is a proposed international convention centre, expected to emerge as a prominent destination for business, cultural, and global events.

Designed as a comprehensive mixed-use development, the project will also include a sports academy, smart residential complexes, expansive green spaces, and outdoor recreational facilities—creating a dynamic urban hub for living, working, and leisure.

According to Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) Vice-Chairman Nand Kishore Kalal, the project has been planned to meet global standards and will be executed through a joint venture with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, pending approval from the GDA board. Originally conceptualised in 2014–15, the project had remained on hold for several years but has now been revived and fast-tracked under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Officials anticipate that the development will generate substantial economic momentum, creating employment opportunities across construction, hospitality, retail, and services sectors. It is also expected to boost tourism, attract fresh investments, and significantly strengthen the economic landscape of Ghaziabad and the wider western Uttar Pradesh region.
