Gujarat Set to Host Mega ₹23,700 Cr Greenfield Shipyard Cluster

The Gujarat Government has officially introduced the Gujarat Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Policy 2026, aiming to establish the state as India’s premier maritime manufacturing and repair hub. A central feature of the policy is a proposed ₹23,700-crore private investment-led greenfield cluster at Kuchdi in Porbandar district.

Approved by the Centre, the project will feature two to three world-class shipyards supported by an ecosystem of ancillary industries. The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) is currently preparing the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

To support this initiative, Gujarat plans to invest nearly ₹3,300 crore in shared marine and onshore infrastructure, including breakwaters, navigational channels, dredging, harbor facilities, and road connectivity. Additionally, the policy outlines plans to build two Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Parks to expand the state's industrial capacity and reinforce its maritime leadership.
