In a major move to solidify its position as India’s primary maritime hub, the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has released two Expressions of Interest (EOIs) targeting more than ₹35,000 crore in investments. Covering over 4,500 hectares along the state's western and southern coastlines, the expansion encompasses three greenfield shipyards, six new ports, and a premier shipbuilding cluster.
Under the plan, greenfield shipyards will be established in Mithapur, Ghogha, and Vadhera, providing a combined annual building capacity of 3 to 3.9 million gross tonnes. Additionally, six greenfield ports will be awarded under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model.
A cornerstone of the initiative is the Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Kuchhadi, Porbandar, supported by the Central Government. According to Ajay Kumar, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the GMB, the shipbuilding cluster alone is projected to draw ₹25,000 crore in investment, leveraging Gujarat's established industrial framework to drive long-term maritime growth.
