The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has outlined an ambitious plan to strengthen the collection, processing and utilisation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, including the establishment of a new 400-tonne-per-day (TPD) processing facility by February 2027.
The roadmap was presented during a recent review meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), with a focus on expanding waste management infrastructure and promoting the recycling of construction debris across the city.
According to officials, Gurugram requires 12 C&D waste collection centres under the prescribed norm of one facility for every 25 sq km. At present, collection centres are operational at Basai and Begampur Khatola, while new facilities at Babupur and Daulatabad are expected to become functional shortly.
To improve collection efficiency, the civic body has identified 20 locations for secondary C&D waste collection centres across Gurugram. These sites are spread across key residential and urban areas and are intended to facilitate the systematic handling of construction waste before it is transported for processing.
MCG highlighted significant progress in recycling efforts, noting that approximately 3.3 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of processed C&D waste were sold in the private market during the previous financial year, while government agencies procured over 11,500 MT of recycled material.
The city is projected to generate around 1,100 TPD of processed C&D products, and the corporation has set a target of securing demand for 100 TPD from government departments and 1,000 TPD from private-sector users.
To encourage wider adoption of recycled construction materials, MCG plans to undertake awareness campaigns and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting the benefits and applications of processed C&D waste.
The initiatives form part of the city's broader strategy to improve waste management, reduce environmental impacts and support sustainable urban development.
