The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has set July 2026 as the new target for completing the much-delayed Rao Birender Singh Sports Complex in Wazirabad, a project valued at ₹88 crore.
Originally announced nearly a decade ago by former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the project has seen slow progress over the years. However, officials now report that 15% of construction is complete, with work progressing steadily. During a site inspection on 03 September 2025, MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya urged engineers and contractors to maintain momentum and adhere strictly to the timeline.
“This sports complex will offer Gurgaon's youth a world-class platform for training and competition. It’s poised to redefine the city’s sporting infrastructure,” said Dahiya.
Awarded to a Panchkula-based firm in June 2024, the project spans 11.07 acres and is designed to be a state-of-the-art multi-sport facility. Excavation and foundation works are already complete.
Key planned features include:
Three multipurpose halls, Courts for basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, and volleyball, Spaces for kabaddi, judo, boxing, gymnastics, table tennis, and cricket, A dedicated shooting range, Weightlifting zones, training rooms, and preparation areas, A skating rink, yoga court, cycling and walking tracks, A children’s play area, gazebos, and an open-air theatre, Parking for 100 cars and 75 two-wheelers, 14 electric vehicle charging stations
Once completed, the facility is expected to serve as a major hub for athletic development and community recreation in Gurugram.
