HFCL Triggers ₹230 Crore Defence Expansion in Andhra Pradesh

HFCL has announced plans to invest approximately ₹230 crore in setting up a new defence manufacturing facility in Sri Sathya Sai district.

The proposed facility will focus on the production of multi-mode hand grenades (MMHG) and other defence-related products, marking a significant expansion of the company’s footprint in the strategic defence manufacturing sector. The project is expected to be completed by December 2027.

According to HFCL, the investment will be financed through a combination of internal accruals, debt funding, and proceeds from a proposed preferential issue of convertible warrants. The facility is expected to strengthen the company’s defence portfolio and enhance its capabilities in the design and manufacturing of advanced defence systems.

The expansion comes amid increasing policy support for import substitution, indigenisation, and domestic defence procurement, creating new growth opportunities for companies with strong engineering and manufacturing expertise.

HFCL stated that the new plant will support its long-term strategy of diversifying into high-growth defence technologies while contributing to India’s efforts toward self-reliance in critical defence production.
