IIT Gandhinagar Launches New Tech Clusters for Viksit Bharat

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, addressed the programme “Advancing Research & Innovation Towards Viksit Bharat” at IIT Gandhinagar, highlighting the critical role of research and innovation in driving India’s development goals.

During his address, the Minister underscored that the true measure of scientific research extends beyond academic publications and should be reflected in its ability to generate tangible societal and economic benefits. He stressed the importance of fostering a robust innovation ecosystem that facilitates the seamless translation of laboratory research into commercially viable and socially impactful solutions through close collaboration among academia, industry and government institutions.

As part of the event, Dr. Singh inaugurated the Department of Science & Technology (DST)-funded Central Instrumentation Facility and launched three new research clusters focused on advanced materials, energy, and healthcare and MedTech. These initiatives are designed to strengthen translational research capabilities and support national priorities, including clean energy development, materials self-reliance and affordable healthcare solutions.

The Minister noted that nearly 70 industries have joined as founding partners in these initiatives, reflecting increasing industry engagement and confidence in academia-driven research and innovation. He emphasised that stronger industry-academia partnerships will be essential for accelerating technology development, commercialisation and the creation of globally competitive solutions.

The IIT Gandhinagar Research Park was also highlighted as a key innovation hub, providing a platform for startups, researchers and industry partners to collaborate on technology development, entrepreneurship and the commercialisation of emerging innovations.
