India’s Next AI Leap: HCLTech Invests ₹1,427 Cr in Sarvam AI

Noida-based IT services major HCLTech has announced an investment of $150 million (approximately ₹1,427 crore) in artificial intelligence startup Sarvam AI, becoming the lead strategic investor in the company. The investment is aimed at supporting the growth of India’s AI ecosystem while strengthening capabilities to address global opportunities in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape.

According to a regulatory filing, HCLTech will acquire 41,421 equity shares of Sarvam AI, representing a 10.46% stake in the company, through an all-cash transaction valued at ₹1,427.25 crore.

The investment coincides with the first close of Sarvam AI’s Series B funding round. The startup has raised $234 million (around ₹2,218.6 crore) in the initial tranche of its planned $300 million Series B round, achieving a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion.

The transaction highlights the increasing strategic focus of large technology companies on India's emerging AI sector, which is attracting significant investment amid growing demand for advanced AI models, enterprise applications, and indigenous innovation.

By backing Sarvam AI, HCLTech aims to contribute to the development of next-generation artificial intelligence technologies while supporting the expansion of a globally competitive AI ecosystem from India. The investment also reflects the growing confidence of industry leaders in the country's potential to become a key hub for AI research, development, and deployment.
