IT Expansion Alert: North Bengal Gets Three New Tech Hubs

The West Bengal government has announced plans to set up three new IT parks in North Bengal, aiming to strengthen the region’s digital infrastructure and meet the rising demand for IT space—particularly in the Siliguri area.

The announcement was made by Babul Supriyo, Minister for Information Technology and Electronics, who noted that the existing three IT parks in Siliguri are fully occupied, underscoring the region’s growing prominence in the state’s IT landscape. “All three IT parks in Siliguri are operating at 100% occupancy. This overwhelming response has encouraged us to expand our IT footprint in North Bengal,” Supriyo said.

West Bengal currently has 22 operational IT parks, with occupancy rates ranging from 80% to 100%. The proposed expansion is a part of the government’s broader strategy to promote regional IT growth, attract tech investments, and generate employment in emerging urban centers outside Kolkata.

The new IT parks are expected to accelerate business development, support startups and mid-sized enterprises, and contribute to the digital economy of North Bengal by providing modern infrastructure and a skilled workforce.
