izmo x IIT Madras: The New Standard in Photonic Packaging

izmo Microsystems, a wholly owned subsidiary of izmo, has been named the official photonic IC packaging partner for a key project led by the Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS) at IIT Madras.

The collaboration marks an important step towards strengthening India’s capabilities in silicon photonics technology. On April 24, 2026, IIT Madras launched its indigenously developed Silicon Photonics Process Design Kit (PDK) and the Universal Programmable Photonic ICs (PPIC) Test Engine.

The PDK includes over 50 validated components, enabling design and development for industries, startups, academic institutions, and defence R&D organisations. The PPIC Test Engine is an advanced automated platform designed to characterise photonic and optoelectronic modules across a wide range of applications.

As a leading photonics packaging company in India, izmo Microsystems will play a critical role in bridging the gap between chip design and real-world deployment, supporting the development and manufacturing ecosystem for silicon photonics.

This partnership is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global photonics landscape while also serving as a national resource for the country’s photonics research and innovation community.
