JSW Infrastructure Wins Big in Kolkata with Major Port Expansion

JSW Infrastructure Ltd. recently said it has emerged as the successful bidder for container berths at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority in Kolkata, marking a key expansion of its presence in eastern India.

The company said the project has been awarded on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework. The development is aimed at boosting container handling capacity, improving operational efficiency, and supporting rising trade volumes in the region.

Under a 30-year concession agreement, the project will be executed in two phases and is expected to add a total capacity of around 0.93 million TEUs. JSW Infrastructure has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for the integrated development of the outer container terminal, comprising two berths and five berths at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) in the Kolkata Dock System.

The company said the latest award builds on its earlier LoA for the reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 at NSD, which together account for an additional 0.45 million TEUs. Interim operations at the earlier project are expected to begin shortly.

Once completed, including capacity from ongoing projects, JSW Infrastructure’s total container handling capacity at the Kolkata Dock System is projected to increase to about 1.4 million TEUs.

JSW Infrastructure, part of the JSW Group, is India’s second-largest private commercial port operator and continues to expand its footprint across key maritime hubs.
