Karnataka Moves Full Speed on Mekedatu Project

On January 24, 2024, Deputy Chief Minister DK ShiavKumar made a significant announcement, affirming the Karnataka government's unwavering commitment to the timely completion of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project within the state.

Having meticulously crafted and submitted a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR), the government has diligently conducted a thorough survey to delineate the areas, spanning Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Ramanagar districts, where both forest and revenue land are slated to be submerged. Currently, the state government is actively pursuing the necessary approvals required for the successful realization of this ambitious project.

The Mekedatu multi-purpose project, encompassing provisions for both drinking water and power generation, is set to materialize through the construction of a balancing reservoir near Kanakapura in Ramanagara district. The primary objective of this initiative is to secure a sustainable supply of drinking water for Bengaluru and its adjoining regions, thereby addressing the critical water needs of the populace.
