The proposed flyover at Palarivattom Bypass Junction, a key component of the Edappally–Aroor elevated highway project, will now pass above the Kochi Metro viaduct, as per the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by Highway Engineering Consultants (Bhopal) to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
According to a senior NHAI official, the revised plan places the flyover 32 metres above the existing flyover and ongoing metro infrastructure along the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium–Infopark corridor. The change was made after a five-month delay in updating the DPR, which had initially overlooked the Metro's Pink Line viaduct alignment.
Designed to fit within the existing Right of Way (ROW), the project aims to minimise land acquisition, with minor exceptions at entry and exit ramps. The Pink Line viaduct—Kochi Metro Phase 2’s tallest segment—will include a 60-metre steel span at Palarivattom to accommodate the revised flyover alignment.
Originally estimated at ₹3,600 crore, the project cost is expected to rise, pending NHAI’s final review. Once completed, the flyover will seamlessly connect Edappally to Aroor, extending the Aroor–Thuravoor elevated corridor, and improving traffic flow across one of Kochi’s busiest junctions.
