Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has established a dedicated unit to supervise the redevelopment of over 24,000 slum tenements in Mumbai, marking a major step beyond its conventional focus on highways and transport infrastructure.
The initiative forms part of the corporation’s broader strategy to enhance urban living standards and contribute to the city’s vision of becoming slum-free. Through large-scale redevelopment, MSRDC seeks to improve housing quality, strengthen urban planning frameworks, and promote sustainable growth in some of Mumbai’s most densely populated localities.
According to officials, the newly formed unit will be responsible for end-to-end coordination — from project planning and execution to monitoring — to ensure timely implementation and effective oversight. The move underscores the state government’s efforts to align infrastructure agencies with wider social development and housing objectives.
