Mundra International Airport (MIA) on Tuesday announced that it is in talks with potential investors to raise Rs 1,400 crore for the development of a new greenfield airport in Gujarat.
The proposed airport will be located at Mundra, a coastal town in Kutch district of Gujarat. It is expected to cater to the growing demand for air travel in the region, which is home to a number of industries, including oil and gas, chemicals, and textiles.
The project is expected to be completed in three years. The airport will have a runway of 3,200 meters and a terminal building with a capacity of 2 million passengers per annum.
MIA is a joint venture between Adani Group and Airports Authority of India (AAI). The company currently operates two airports in India – MIA and Ahmedabad International Airport.
The investment in the new Gujarat airport is part of Adani Group's plans to expand its airport portfolio. The group is also planning to develop airports in Jaipur, Lucknow, and Guwahati.
The new Gujarat airport is expected to boost tourism and economic development in the region. It will also provide a much-needed alternative to air travel in the region, which is currently served by a limited number of airports.
As on November 2023, The project is now in the stage of construction being started.
