NHAI Clears Dwarka Pipeline, Water Work Back On

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has granted approval to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to resume the laying of a master water pipeline beneath the Dwarka Expressway.

The decision follows discussions between GMDA CEO PC Meena and the NHAI Chairman. The pipeline work had been suspended two months ago after damage was observed on a section of the Central Peripheral Road (CPR). A ground-penetrating radar survey later revealed 16 cavities beneath the roadway along the pipeline alignment. NHAI has now permitted the resumption of work, subject to the condition that GMDA ensures the structural safety of the road surface during construction.

The pipeline, comprising two 340-metre stretches, will complete the connection between the Chandu Budhera Water Treatment Plant and the Sector 72 water boosting station. GMDA officials noted that once the link is completed, water supply across Sectors 51 to 80 is expected to improve significantly.

Emphasising the importance of the project, PC Meena said, “The laying of this water pipeline is essential to complete the distribution network and ensure adequate water supply to sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road.”
