Dakshina Kannada district has achieved 75% of its target under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which aims to provide safe and adequate piped drinking water to rural households.

Out of a target of 90,388 households, 67,406 connections have been completed across nine taluks. The district, with a population of 14.47 lakh and 3,34,185 households, has already provided water connections to 2,43,797 homes, leaving 22,982 households yet to be covered under the scheme.

The programme, being implemented in three phases, is progressing steadily. Of the 700 planned works with a total estimated cost of ₹573.92 crore, 657 have been completed, reflecting a 93.8% completion rate. So far, ₹517.5 crore has been spent on the project.

In addition, seven multi-village drinking water schemes are being developed across 144 gram panchayats in areas such as Moodubidire, Ulayibettu, Ilanthila, Kutrupady, Alankaru, Alike, and Ullal-Kotekar to further strengthen water supply infrastructure.

The initiative is significantly improving access to clean and reliable drinking water in rural areas, enhancing the overall quality of life in the district.
