Rajasthan is set to boost its logistics and industrial ecosystem with the development of a major inland port in Jalore.
Announced on November 18 by Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat, the project will connect Rajasthan directly to the Arabian Sea through Gujarat’s Kandla Port, using a proposed 262 km waterway linking Jalore to the Gulf of Kutch. By easing the burden on existing road and rail networks, the inland port is expected to reduce logistics costs and significantly improve regional trade efficiency. The project will require extensive dredging work valued at over ₹10,000 crore.
The initiative is poised to create new growth opportunities for industries such as textiles, stone, and oilseeds, while also supporting the HPCL–Rajasthan refinery. It is estimated to generate around 50,000 jobs and catalyse the development of warehousing, cold-chain facilities, and industrial clusters. Rajasthan is expected to allocate 14 km of land for the project, with the final project report to be prepared following detailed site inspections.
IIT Madras has submitted the draft Detailed Project Report (DPR), which is currently under review by state authorities. After incorporating feedback from the government and conducting field assessments, a final DPR will be completed, paving the way for project implementation.
