The Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility, located in Kharedi, Dahod, Gujarat, emerges as a vital initiative in addressing the pressing issue of biomedical waste management. With a substantial project cost of Rs. 5 crores and spanning an expansive area of 5,460 m2, this facility is poised to revolutionize the treatment and disposal of medical waste generated by hospitals, clinics, and various healthcare establishments across the Dahod district. Key components of this facility include an incinerator boasting a capacity of 250 kg/hr, a DG set, an ETP, and an STP, all designed to efficiently handle different types of biomedical waste.
One of the pivotal aspects of this project is its capability to effectively manage various categories of biomedical waste. From used oil (Cat. 5.1) amounting to 30 liters per year to incineration ash (Cat. 37.2) estimated at 180 tonnes per annum, encapsulated waste, disinfected materials, to sludge from ETP and STP, this facility covers a wide spectrum of waste types, ensuring comprehensive and environmentally responsible disposal methods.
Program waste management should exceed efficiency. Unprocessed biological waste is reduced for environmental protection. This method decreases biomedical waste disposal-related diseases, protecting locals. Sharps and mercury-contaminated biomedical waste are treated at the facility. A separate chamber stores and treats hazardous waste, guaranteeing entire waste management.
As on December 2023, The project is currently in the stage of being approved currently awaiting approval from the government.
