Sarvam-Powering the Nation: The Rise of India’s Sovereign AI Grid

Sarvam AI has entered into partnerships with the governments of Odisha and Tamil Nadu to build a national compute grid and develop ‘Sovereign AI’ infrastructure.

The collaboration aims to establish large-scale compute facilities and develop localized language models to ensure that artificial intelligence solutions are accessible to citizens in their native languages. Pratyush Kumar, CEO of Sarvam AI, said the partnerships are designed to enable transformation through the creation of at-scale compute capacity, sovereign AI models, and institutional capabilities to accelerate AI adoption.

On 6 February 2026, the Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sarvam AI to set up a 50 MW AI-optimised data centre. The proposed hub will serve as a key node in a nationwide compute grid, offering AI capacity to other states and national platforms, and marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s digital self-reliance.
