Smooth Sailing: The Strategic Union of GRSE and HSL

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) and Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a shipbuilding consortium aimed at supporting the development of India’s maritime infrastructure.

The MoU, signed in Kolkata, focuses on the construction of maritime platforms and the enhancement of India’s operational capabilities at sea. The collaboration will leverage the complementary strengths and expertise of both public sector shipyards, contributing to the national objective of expanding indigenous shipbuilding capacity. The partners also highlighted that the consortium will play a key role in promoting technological self-reliance in shipbuilding, in line with India’s broader defence and infrastructure priorities.

The agreement was signed by senior representatives from both organisations, including Commander Shantanu Bose on behalf of GRSE and Captain Ganti Venkateswarlu for HSL. Through this partnership, the two shipyards aim to further strengthen India’s maritime capabilities, supporting both defence requirements and commercial shipping needs.
