Tech Odyssey: Odisha's 5,500-Acre IT & Electronics Push

The Odisha government has earmarked nearly 5,500 acres in and around Bhubaneswar for the development of IT parks, towers, and electronic manufacturing hubs under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Despite strong interest from IT and semiconductor firms, land allotment had long been a major hurdle. Key locations identified include Mundali (980 acres), Kuaput Hills and Haldipada (1,694 acres), Aranga (1,504 acres), Aragul (874.5 acres), and XIM University Square (441.5 acres). Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has directed IDCO and the Khurda district administration to fast-track land acquisition.

Once development is completed, land may be offered at concessional rates to major IT, ITeS, and ESDM players looking to establish large-scale operations. Smaller parcels within Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limits will be used for IT parks and towers aimed at startups and SMEs.

Focus has also been placed on completing built-up infrastructure at Infovalley, Infocity, and new towers by NBCC, OBCC, OMC, and in the Chandaka area. IDCO will roll out a GIS-based land management system, while East Coast Railway (ECoR) will be approached to allocate space for IT firms at the Bhubaneswar railway station.
