On 14 July 2025, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stones and inaugurated multiple capacity-building projects at Visakhapatnam Port, marking a combined investment of over ₹276 crore aimed at enhancing port infrastructure and operational efficiency.
As part of this expansion initiative, six new projects worth ₹116 crore were announced, including:
Construction of B-Ramp within the port area – ₹33.49 crore, Finger jetty and wharf at the fishing harbour – ₹32.61 crore
Two additional breasting dolphins at the Outer Harbour Single Point Mooring Terminal (OSTT) – ₹20.87 crore, New ramp connecting the Ambedkar Centenary Flyover to the L-17 corridor – ₹8.31 crore, Promenade development near the cruise terminal – ₹15.90 crore, Public toilet blocks at 15 locations – ₹5.50 crore
In addition, the Minister inaugurated infrastructure and digital upgrades valued at ₹159.96 crore, further supporting the port’s transformation into a modern, globally connected maritime hub.
“In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Visakhapatnam Port is undergoing strategic expansion through projects exceeding ₹276 crore. These initiatives will modernise infrastructure, enhance cargo handling capabilities, and strengthen the port’s position in global maritime logistics,” said Minister Sonowal during the event.
