VOC Port Set for Rs 7,000 Crore Expansion with Green Focus

The Central government is actively considering the commencement of the VOC Port outer harbor development, allocating a budget exceeding Rs 7,000 crore. This comprehensive plan encompasses the establishment of green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities within the port lands. The initiation of this project is imminent, pending the final approval.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is eager to kickstart the outer harbor development as part of the capacity enhancement strategy. This initiative entails the creation of two container terminals, each boasting a quay length of 1,000 meters.

VOC Port, situated in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, has been designated as the 'nodal port' for the development of offshore wind farms spanning the southern Tamil Nadu region from Kanniyakumari to Ramanathapuram. In alignment with this vision, the Port has proposed the development of necessary berths and additional infrastructure to support the offshore wind farm initiative. Anticipated to commence in the near future, this project holds significant promise for the region's economic and infrastructural growth.
