₹489 Cr Approved: Muktyala Project to Bring Water to 39,000 Acres

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved ₹489.28 crore for the long-pending Muktyala Lift Irrigation Project, offering renewed hope to farmers in Jaggayyapeta and Nandigama Mandals of the NTR district.

The project is designed to irrigate approximately 39,000 acres of agricultural land and provide drinking water to nearly 30 villages. It will be located on the left bank of the Krishna River near Muktyala village, about 4 km downstream of the Pulichintala Project. The system is engineered to lift 2.7 TMC of water at a discharge rate of 386.27 cusecs, operating 16 hours daily over 120 days.

Originally approved under the TDP government in 2019, the project was later altered by the YSRCP government, which relocated it to Vedadri and renamed it. Although a foundation stone was laid by then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2020, progress stalled.

The project has now been revived under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu. On July 18, it was included among 71 irrigation works cleared for continuation, marking a significant step toward improving agricultural infrastructure and water access in the region.
