The Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) has formally approved the grant of a 30-year mining lease for the Namchik-Namphuk coal block, located in the Kharsang sub-division of Changlang district—a key development for the state’s coal and mining sector.
The lease, cleared by the Government of India, was signed with Guwahati-based Coal Pulz, the successful bidder for the block. The mine was part of the Union Ministry of Coal’s 16th tranche auction under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015, and the 6th tranche under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
According to Geology & Mining and Environment & Forest Minister Wangki Lowang, operations are expected to yield two lakh tonnes of coal annually, in line with the approved mining plan. The project is designed to address rising energy demands, generate local employment, and enhance state revenue through royalties.
All statutory clearances, including Stage-I and Stage-II forest approvals, have been secured, paving the way for commencement of mining activities.
