In a significant push toward boosting domestic energy capacity, India's Ministry of Coal successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions. Launched in mid-April 2026, the bidding process culminated in competitive forward auctions on August 3 and 4. The six awarded blocks—comprising four fully explored and two partially explored mines—hold an estimated 1,503.93 million tonnes of geological reserves and are projected to deliver a Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum.
