MRPL fuels green future with long-term RLNG pact from BPCL

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) has recently inked a five-year gas supply agreement with Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), marking a strategic move towards sustainability. As part of the pact, BPCL will provide 0.43 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to MRPL's refinery and petrochemical complex in Mangaluru, sourced from its Kochi terminal.

This collaboration signifies MRPL's commitment to environmental responsibility, as it plans to leverage RLNG as a key input for hydrogen production and as fuel for gas turbines, supporting the generation of power, steam, and heat in various furnaces. The transition from traditional fuels such as naphtha, diesel, and fuel oil to RLNG is expected to enhance operational sustainability and potentially yield surplus products for the market.

By embracing natural gas in the refining process, MRPL aims to curtail emissions and minimize its carbon footprint. The utilization of gas holds paramount importance in refining crude oil, offering cost-effective feed solutions and optimizing fuel consumption. As the largest public sector refinery in India situated at a single site, MRPL continues to be a pioneer in adopting and adhering to international quality standards.
