NavPrakriti plans to invest over ₹1,000 crore to set up a greenfield critical minerals refining facility in Odisha, marking a major step toward strengthening India’s domestic battery recycling ecosystem.
The proposed plant is expected to become operational by FY2029 and will process up to 5,000 tonnes of end-of-life batteries annually. It will focus on extracting key materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, enabling high-purity recovery and supporting efforts to reduce reliance on imported critical minerals. The project aligns with the objectives of the National Critical Mineral Mission, under which the company has been deemed eligible.
The development comes amid growing demand for lithium-ion batteries, driven by the expansion of electric mobility and renewable energy storage. The Odisha facility will be NavPrakriti’s second greenfield unit, complementing its existing plant in Serampore, which has a processing capacity of 12,000 tonnes, scalable to 24,000 tonnes.
The company also plans to collaborate with more than 150 battery manufacturers and invest in research partnerships to advance recycling technologies, strengthening its role in building a circular economy for battery materials in India.
