Prakash Industries Limited planning to set up Eklama Iron Ore Mine Project in Chhattisgarh

Prakash Industries Limited intends to build a new iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district. The mine is in the village of Eklama and has an estimated reserve of 274.896 hectares. The corporation has submitted an application for forest clearing to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The suggestion is currently being considered. The mine's yearly capacity is projected to be 2 million tonnes of iron ore. 

The iron ore will be used to feed the company's sponge iron mill in the Bilaspur district. Around 1,000 people are expected to be employed as a result of the mining. Environmentalists have expressed concern over the proposal. They have expressed concerns about the mine's environmental impact, which includes deforestation, river contamination, and air pollution. The corporation has stated that it will take all necessary steps to reduce the project's environmental impact.

 The project will cost 40 crores. In the next months, the MoEFCC is scheduled to make a decision on the forest clearing request. If the project is accepted, the mine will begin operations in 2024. As of September 2023, The project is currently in the stage of being approved currently awaiting approval from the government.
