Reliance Powers Into Underground Coal Gasification with AP Project

Beginning January 2027, Reliance Industries (RIL) will initiate exploration for a flagship underground coal gasification (UCG) project in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh. Secured through the Ministry of Coal's 2026 commercial auctions, the project targets pilot completion by mid-2028 through parallel exploration and development phases. By converting in-situ coal into clean combustible gas, the project marks Andhra Pradesh’s entry into India’s growing UCG sector and offers a sustainable pathway for harnessing local coal reserves.
