MAHE-BPL: A New Era for Indian Medical Technology

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BPL Medical Technologies to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in the field of medical technology development.

This initiative, part of MAHE’s “Year of Excellence in Industry-Academia Collaboration,” seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial innovation. The focus is on developing clinically validated, cost-effective medical devices for both Indian and global markets. The MoU was formalized by Dr. Giridhar P. Kini, Registrar of MAHE, and Guruswamy Krishnamurthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, in the presence of senior dignitaries from both institutions.

The partnership will facilitate joint educational programs, collaborative research, student exchanges, and internship opportunities—aligned with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. BPL Medical will benefit from MAHE’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and clinical expertise, while MAHE students will gain hands-on industry experience.

This collaboration also bolsters MAHE’s MIDAS (Medical Instruments, Devices & Allied Services) hub—India’s first medical device innovation hub at a private university, supported by the Department of Science & Technology. MIDAS brings together 25 institutions and 30 industry partners to reduce import dependency and drive innovation in affordable healthcare solutions across India.
