The Indian Cabinet has cleared a landmark ₹1.86 trillion ($19.4 billion) programme to supercharge the country's green transition by targeting its two primary grid bottlenecks: transmission and storage.
Transmission Expansion (₹1.36 Trillion): Focuses on strengthening intra-state networks to evacuate up to 135 GW of renewable energy.
Battery Storage Incentives (₹500 Billion): Backs the deployment of 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to stabilize grid reliability.
Designed to support India’s ambitious goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 (up from ~304 GW), the initiative creates a multi-year boom for EPC contractors, electrical equipment manufacturers, and domestic battery supply chains.
