Tata Power plans to announce a new solar manufacturing project in Odisha in the coming months as part of its accelerated investments across the clean energy value chain, Chairman N. Chandrasekaran shared at the company's recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The planned facility aligns with Tata Power's broader strategy to strengthen its ecosystem across generation, manufacturing, and supporting infrastructure. The company’s total generation capacity has crossed 26 GW—including projects under development—with clean and green energy now accounting for 66% of its portfolio. During FY26, Tata Power commissioned approximately 2.5 GW of renewable energy projects, with another 5.1 GW currently under execution.
To support this capacity, the company is expanding its energy storage capabilities through two major pumped storage projects: a 1,000 MW facility at Bhivpuri and a 1,800 MW facility at Shirwata.
Chandrasekaran noted that India is transitioning toward a cleaner, greener, and more decentralized energy system, with renewable energy projected to make up nearly two-thirds of the country’s installed power capacity by 2030. He highlighted that surging electricity demand—driven by artificial intelligence, data centers, and rising cooling requirements from climate change—will continue to accelerate investments in renewable energy, energy storage, and grid infrastructure.
