South Central Railway completed electrification between Jalna-Usmanpur

South Central Railway has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to electrify Indian Railways by completing the electrification of a 53.4 Rkm stretch between Jalna and Usmanpur in the Nanded Division. This accomplishment is part of the larger Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone Electrification Project. Consequently, a continuous electrified section spanning 228 Kms from Manmad to Usmanpur has been established.

The Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone Electrification Project, sanctioned in 2015-16 at an estimated cost of Rs 865 Crores, covers a vast distance of 783 Kms across Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. The project is being executed in multiple phases, with around 420 Kms falling within Maharashtra, specifically between Manmad and Dharmabad.

Several phases of the project have been completed in different segments:

Ankai (Manmad) to Rotegaon spanning 37 Kms.
Rotegaon to Aurangabad covering 74 Kms.
Aurangabad to Dinagaon spanning 56 Kms.
A 7 Kms stretch between Dinagaon and Jalna.
The recent electrification achievement between Jalna and Usmanpur, adding 53 Kms to the total, completes a 227 Kms electrification in this section. The ongoing works are progressing swiftly in the remaining sections between Usmanpur, Parbhani, Mudkhed, and Dharmabad, aiming to finalize electrification in the near future.

Significance of the Electrification Project:

Enhanced Train Movement: The electrification minimizes the need for traction power changes, reducing enroute delays for both passenger and freight trains, ensuring seamless operations.

Improved Speed and Capacity: The electrification leads to increased average train speeds, allowing for the potential introduction of more trains due to the enhanced sectional capacity.

Environment-Friendly Initiative: By powering trains with zero carbon emissions, electrification aligns with eco-friendly measures while simultaneously reducing fuel costs.

South Central Railway's electrification efforts signify a crucial step towards modernizing and optimizing the rail network, promising efficiency, sustainability, and improved connectivity for passengers and freight alike.
