Power Play: NTPC Green and GAIL Join Forces for a Greener India

NTPC Green Energy and GAIL India have announced a strategic partnership to establish a 50:50 joint venture focused on developing renewable energy projects across India.

The board of NTPC Green Energy approved the joint venture agreement on 15 January 2026, subject to approvals from the Ministry of Power, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and other relevant statutory authorities. This collaboration supports NTPC’s ambitious target of achieving 60 GW of green energy capacity by FY32.

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of state-owned NTPC, serves as the umbrella organisation for NTPC’s green energy initiatives, pursuing both organic and inorganic growth opportunities. Through this partnership, NTPC Green Energy and GAIL aim to accelerate the execution of renewable energy projects and contribute significantly to the expansion of India’s clean energy ecosystem.

The joint venture represents a key milestone in advancing NTPC’s green energy mission and strengthening the country’s transition towards sustainable energy.
