Bikaner’s Big Battery: Juniper Green’s 100 MWh Win.

Juniper Green Energy has fully commissioned its 100 MWh merchant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking the company’s first operational merchant BESS.

Developed through its subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic, the facility is among the largest operational BESS projects in India. Trial operations have been completed, and the system has received approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC). Commercial operations for the full 100 MWh capacity commenced on 23 January 2026. CEO Ankush Malik stated, “This milestone unlocks new revenue streams while enhancing grid stability and accelerating our renewable energy mission.”

The BESS is expected to generate merchant revenue through peak power arbitrage, grid balancing services, and participation in ancillary service markets. Juniper Green Energy plans to expand storage capacity across solar project sites connected to the interstate transmission system (ISTS). Additionally, a 400 MWh BESS is under installation at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan, with commissioning anticipated in Q1 2026.
