India is advancing its green energy ambitions with the launch of Phases 3 and 4 of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC), a major initiative to strengthen the integration of renewable power into the national grid.
These upcoming phases will focus on evacuating up to 150 GW of renewable energy—significantly higher than earlier stages—and will require substantial investment to enhance grid capacity and stability. The Green Energy Corridor is a cornerstone of India’s plan to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030.
Phase 1, which enabled the transmission of 20 GW of renewable energy, is nearing completion, while Phase 2 is currently under implementation. Scheduled for completion by FY27, GEC Phase 2 includes the development of new transmission lines and substations across key renewable-rich states. Although the project has faced delays due to land acquisition challenges and supply constraints, the government remains committed, emphasizing that these corridors are critical to India’s clean energy transition.
