Bajel Projects Commissions Landmark 400kV Line for PGCIL

Bajel Projects has successfully commissioned and handed over the 400kV multi-circuit Maharanibagh–Narela transmission line to Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), establishing multiple national benchmarks in power transmission infrastructure.

Completed on 25 November 2025, the project was executed amid significant challenges posed by the densely populated Delhi–NCR region. To address these constraints, Bajel Projects deployed a mix of 83 lattice towers and 40 monopoles, incorporating advanced twin high-temperature low-sag (HTLS) conductors. A key highlight of the project is the introduction of India’s first vertically configured 400kV multi-circuit transmission line on monopoles, enabling higher transmission capacity while substantially reducing right-of-way (RoW) requirements in urban settings.

The project also marked PGCIL’s first deployment of 400kV insulated cross-arm technology on monopoles, significantly enhancing operational reliability and safety. Further underscoring its scale and complexity, the line features India’s tallest monopole at 88.23 metres, the heaviest monopole at 290 tonnes, and the largest-diameter monopole measuring 3,900 mm.

According to Bajel Projects, the successful execution of this project sets a new benchmark for the development of complex, high-capacity transmission infrastructure in India.
